LANDOVER — It’s defensive, it’s low-scoring and it’s still either team’s ball game.
The Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys are tied 7-7 at halftime in the Redskins’ first game against an NFC East opponent this year.
Washington scored its seven on the first possession — a six-play, 52-yard drive that ended with an Alex Smith touchdown pass to Kapri Bibbs. Smith threw to Bibbs in the flat and he found a seam to run the rest of the way.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spent some time in the blue medical tent to check for a concussion after he collided with Redskins cornerback Greg Stroman while trying to run for a first down late in the first quarter.
But Prescott didn’t miss any game action. Late in the second quarter, he capped off an 83-yard drive with a 49-yard touchdown toss to Michael Gallup, who burned fellow rookie Stroman. Washington took a shot at the end zone on the last play of the half, but it dropped incomplete.
The Redskins held star Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott to 13 yards on his first 10 touches. Each team punted three times.
This game will determine who leads the NFC East through seven weeks of the NFL season. Washington would improve to 4-2 with a win.
