SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Jake Maier threw for five touchdowns and UC Davis recovered from a lethargic first quarter and demolished Cal Poly 52-10 on Saturday night.

Cal Poly took a 10-0 lead after one quarter when, on its first drive, Joe Protheroe ran for a 35-yard touchdown finishing off a nine-play, 64-yard drive. Meanwhile, the Aggies struggled offensively and gained just 17 yards in nine plays and punted on all three of their drives.

The second quarter marked a complete turnaround for UC Davis (6-1, 4-0 Big Sky) as it scored five times on six drives with four of the drives producing touchdowns and a 31-10 lead at the break. Maier threw touchdown passes of 9, 19, and 14 yards to Wesley Preece, Jared Harrell and Keelan Doss respectively.

Tehran Thomas gained 101 yards on nine carries and Ulonzo Gilliam had 95 yards on 10 carries and a score.

Protheroe gained 147 yards on 33 carries for Cal Poly (2-5, 1-3).
