WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington’s city council president is denying suggestions that she tried to have a $40 parking ticket fixed.

The News Journal reports that less than 48 hours after Hanifa Shabazz got a parking ticket in May, her chief of staff sent an email to the city parking enforcement office asking “Is there anything that can be done?”

Shabazz wound up paying the ticket a month later, but Councilman Bob Williams says emails obtained by the newspaper raise questions about whether Shabazz was seeking “special favors.”

Shabazz says the email exchange with parking officials is not what it appears, and that “We don’t fix tickets.”

Her chief of staff said she didn’t know the ticket was not related to Shabazz’s designated council parking spot until the parking enforcement supervisor pointed it out.
