PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Judicial Nominating Commission has sent a list of contenders to the governor to fill two vacancies on the District Court.

The Providence Journal reports that the panel sent two lists to Gov. Gina Raimondo on Wednesday for the seats left open by the late William Clifton and Rafael Ovalles, who retired amid a report that he harassed female staff and lawyers.

There are five in the running for Ovalles’ seat, including Warwick lawyer Anthony Amalfetano and Assistant Attorney General Timothy Healy.

Amalfetano, Healy and assistant public defender Christopher Knox Smith were also named for Clifton’s seat. Clifton died in March at age 75.

District Court judges are lifetime positions that pay $153,340 a year.
