ASHBURN, Virginia — Washington wide receiver Jamison Crowder will miss his second straight game Sunday when the Redskins take on the Dallas Cowboys, while wideout Paul Richardson is doubtful with a shoulder and knee injury.
Crowder, who has missed the past two weeks of practice with an ankle injury, was seen outside the locker room Thursday rolling in a medical scooter with a boot around his right foot.
Coach Jay Gruden said Crowder could miss the next few weeks.
“Some guys will recover quicker than others,” Gruden said. “But for a slot, for him to change direction with confidence, we’ll have to wait and see. He’s going to be very diligent in his rehab.
“I would expect him to be back sooner than later, but it could still be a little time,” he said.
Richardson, meanwhile, met with doctors Thursday to receive another opinion on his knee after initially hurting it against the New Orleans Saints. The 26-year-old played Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, but went this week without practicing.
Gruden said Richardson’s knee is swollen and is irritated but showed no structural damage when further examined.
“He just hasn’t had the ability to come out of his cuts quite like how he wants to right now, so we’re trying to give him a week,” Gruden said. “We’ll see how he runs [Saturday] … I think the big for him longevity-wise, for this season, I think we have to get the bottom of what he has.”
Richardson has been the Redskins’ most productive receiver this season. In five games, he’s caught 16 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Besides Crowder and Richardson, the Redskins listed running backs Adrian Peterson (shoulder, knee, ankle) and Chris Thompson (rib, knee), guard Shawn Lauvao (calf), cornerbacks Danny Johnson (arm) and Quinton Dunbar (shin).
Dunbar popped up on the injury report Friday with a shin contusion. Gruden sounded optimistic he will be able to play against Dallas, but added, “we’ll see.”
In the case Dunbar can’t play, rookie Greg Stroman would likely start opposite of Josh Norman. Second-year cornerback Fabian Moreau will remain in the slot, Gruden said.
Gruden said Dunbar will undergo further evaluation.
“I think it’s just pain,” Gruden said. “We’ll get to the bottom of it here. We’re going to have him get checked out here. Knowing Dunny, he’ll probably be all right. But we’ll see.”
Thompson, on the other hand, is more of a question mark. After missing last week’s game, the running back did “very little” during Friday’s practice, Gruden said.
The Redskins will closely examine Thompson in Sunday’s warmup, wanting to test how the running back reacts to coming in and out of cuts.
Elsewhere, Lauvao could make his return after having been out the last three games with a calf injury. If Lauvao is active, he’s likely to start back at left guard, shifting Chase Roullier back to center.
