Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Thursday that he will not represent the U.S. at the Future Investment Initiative summit in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Mnuchin said the decision was made after meeting with President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The secretary was a prominent holdout for the conference, after telling CNBC on Friday that he was still planning on attending. Although he did note during the interview, his plans could change.

Several other major businesses and media outlets pulled out from the conference as suspicion grew that the Saudi Arabia government was responsible for assassinating Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

Mr. Pompeo traveled to meet with the king and crown prince of Saudi Arabia this week.

The secretary of state and the president have not blamed the Middle Eastern kingdom for the mysterious disappearance. Mr. Pompeo told Mr. Trump on Thursday that the Saudis needed more time to complete their investigation.
