The Cleveland Indians warned the Boston Red Sox that a man representing the Houston Astros might try to steal signs from their dugout, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reported.
Major League Baseball is investigating whether a Houston employee stole information from Boston’s dugout in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. A man was caught filming in the direction of the Red Sox’ dugout from where he stood in a photographer’s section.
But Passan reported that the same man, named Kyle McLaughlin, was found taking cell phone video of the Indians’ dugout during the Astros’ and Indians’ ALDS matchup. Sources told Yahoo that security caught McLaughlin and removed him from the stadium in both Cleveland and Boston.
The Indians organization warned Boston about what was going on once Boston advanced to the ALCS. The Red Sox lead the Astros two games to one in the ALCS after Boston’s win Tuesday night.
The Astros were already under investigation for one other accusation of cheating: The Oakland Athletics claimed during the regular season that some Astros players in the dugout were stealing signs and relaying them to their teammate at bat. The current status of that investigation is unclear.
The Astros won their first World Series in 2017.
