The Buffalo Bills announced Derek Anderson will start at quarterback Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts as rookie Josh Allen deals with an elbow sprain.
Coach McDermott: “Josh Allen has an elbow sprain. There is no plan for surgery but he will be week-to-week. Derek Anderson will be our starting QB this week.” #GoBills pic.twitter.com/cPRRMknh9r

The Bills picked Anderson over the constantly mocked Nathan Peterman, who entered Buffalo’s game last week when Allen was injured.
Anderson, 35, signed with the Bills earlier this month. He was originally supposed to take a role in mentoring the rookie Allen. Now, he will make his first NFL start since Week 13 of 2016, when he started for the Panthers in place of Cam Newton — whom the team briefly benched for breaking the team’s dress code.
Anderson played for the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals before settling into the No. 2 role in Carolina for seven years. He was not brought back to the Panthers for 2018.
Peterman, meanwhile, has finally lost the trust of Bills coach Sean McDermott after throwing nine interceptions in 79 career pass attempts, including a pick-six last week that clinched a Buffalo loss to the Houston Texans.
