The Washington Redskins released defensive lineman Ziggy Hood on Tuesday, according to his agent.
Hood, 31, was in a reduced role this season after the Redskins drafted two defensive tackles — Daron Payne and Tim Settle — and had another young lineman, Jonathan Allen, return from injury. In two of the last three games, Hood went without playing a single defensive snap.
Last season, Hood started 13 games for the Redskins, playing mostly at nose tackle. The veteran moved to that position after Phil Taylor, the team’s expected starter, suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason. Hood finished 2017 with 25 tackles and 10 quarterback hits.
The Redskins first signed Hood in 2016 as a free agent.
With Hood’s release, cornerback Josh Norman, 30, is now the oldest player on the Redskins’ defense.
