BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A housing campaign launched two years ago by Burlington-area nonprofits and state groups has fallen short of its target for new affordable homes.

Champlain Housing Trust CEO Brenda Torpy said Wednesday that 191 permanently affordable homes have been built over the past two years, 32 percent short of the 280 homes that needed to be built over the first two years of the campaign. The Burlington Free Press reports the goal of the campaign was to build 700 permanently affordable homes by 2021.

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission joined with Champlain Housing Trust and Housing Vermont to launch the Building Homes Together Campaign in 2016.

Torpy says overall construction goals for the campaign are being met, but missing the affordable housing target is cause for concern.
