Justice Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford blatantly lied in answers to routine questions from the prosecutor, and these lies cast serious doubt about her truthfulness on any of the issues at hand (“’Speaking truth to power’: Christine Blasey Ford nominated for UNC Distinguished Alumna Award,” Web, Oct. 9).

She claimed to have a such a severe fear of flying that she almost could not fly to Washington to give testimony. It turned out that some of the places she visits regularly — not only for work, but for recreation — are in far-flung corners of the Earth. Mrs. Ford also claimed she did not know the committee had extended the offer to come out to California to interview her. These answers from a college professor who is on the Internet and has access to TV and newspapers — all of which had plastered that offer everywhere — smack of serious intent to deceive. They are a glowing red flag in Mrs. Ford’s flimsy credibility, especially as they were in response to very recent events, not the supposed events of some 36 years ago.

The continued statements defending and even lauding her and the pathetic, empty, blind efforts to fool the public are all shameful.
