SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Republican congressional candidate Dusty Johnson has brought in more than double his Democratic opponent’s third-quarter fundraising haul.
Federal campaign finance reports filed Monday show Johnson raised about $546,000 from July 1 through Sept. 30. Democrat Tim Bjorkman raised about $261,000 in that time period, including a $30,000 personal contribution.
Johnson ended September with roughly $500,000 on hand and about $143,000 in obligations. Bjorkman had roughly $235,000 in the bank and reported about $5,000 in obligations.
Johnson says enthusiasm for a positive campaign focused on policy has been “incredible.” Bjorkman’s campaign says Johnson relied on bigger contributions from fewer donors and political action committee funding.
Voters will decide between Bjorkman, a former judge, and Johnson, a past public utilities commissioner, in the Nov. 6 election. Republicans currently hold every statewide office in South Dakota.
