GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man fatally shot when he opened fire on law enforcement in Georgia has been identified.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports 41-year-old James Christopher Manus was killed Saturday. No deputies or bystanders were injured.

Hall County authorities were called to a location around 6 p.m. after several neighbors said Manus pointed a gun at them. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Natalie Ammons says he also set fire to a neighbor’s well house.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says Manus barricaded himself inside the home and refused communication attempts when deputies tried to speak with him on his front porch.

Ammons says Manus fired at SWAT team members while standing in the doorway after an hours-long standoff. She says law enforcement returned fire, killing him.
