PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire residents say a proposed high-voltage transmission line that would run between Madbury and Portsmouth would harm the area’s ecosystem.
The Portsmouth Herald reports residents urged the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee to reject Eversource’s Seacoast Reliability Project during a meeting Thursday in Portsmouth. Eversource plans to jet plow the transmission line under the Little Bay.
Residents fear jet plowing could release toxins from disrupted sediment in the bay, spreading to the Great Bay estuary.
Democratic State Rep. Majorie Smith says jet plowing “will forever alter the delicate balance of the Great Bay.” Smith says Eversource should considerate an alternate route.
Eversource claims contaminants in the sediment won’t threaten the Little Bay.
The committee is taking public comment through email and is expected to make a final decision next month.
