A left-wing protester got more than she bargained for this week when she tried to corner Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy in the Capitol Building.
Alethea Torrellas Shapiro brought her four children (ages 3, 5, 10, and 12) along for a day of activism on Tuesday to harangue the Republican over Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. The exchange that followed left her stunned.
“Senator Cassidy, can you please apologize to my children for ruining their futures?” she asked in cellphone footage captured by The Daily Caller and shared on Friday.
“Hey, guess what? I know your parents are using you as tools, but in the future, if somebody makes an allegation against you, and there’s no proof for it, you will be OK. Thank you,” the senator told her children.
The activist, flanked by her son in an “I am a feminist too” shirt, denied the claim.
”We’re not using them as tools!” she claimed as the lawmaker walked off.
The website also provided screenshots of the activist’s Facebook page, which telegraphed a plan to work her children into the day’s protests.
“I went these horrible atrocious men to see the faces of the future that they are ruining and to know the tremendous pain women and men are feeling now that they confirmed Kavanaugh,” she wrote.
