President Trump said Thursday that his political rival Hillary Clinton should have been “taken right off the campaign” and thrown in jail back in 2016.

“The Democrats hated Comey more than any human being,” Mr. Trump said on Fox News, referring to former FBI Director James B. Comey. “He actually did Hillary Clinton a big favor because she should be in jail.”

The FBI was investigating Mrs. Clinton’s handling of sensitive information on a private email server during the presidential election. In a game-changing move, Mr. Comey penned a letter to Congress that many believed cost her the race.

Mr. Trump complained that he didn’t receive bipartisan support when he fired Mr. Comey, in light of Democrat frustration over the letter.
