MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont has received nearly $19 million in federal loans for community-based water infrastructure projects.
The Bennington Banner reports the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the loan fund grants Tuesday. Vermont will use the grants to improve treatment facilities, handle pollution, fix pipes and create green infrastructure projects.
The funding is part of a national program that requires states to contribute 20 percent to match federal grants. The state Department of Environmental Conservation will manage construction projects.
EPA New England Regional administrator Alexandra Dunn said in a release the funding will ensure “communities have access to clean water.”
Gov. Phil Scott said in a statement all Vermont towns and cities will be eligible to apply to use the funding. Scott added that funding is “especially important” to smaller communities.
