OKARCHE, Okla. (AP) - Five central Oklahoma law officers are on paid leave after fatally shooting a man suspected of stealing a pickup truck.
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West says the man was shot Monday when he got out of the truck with a handgun after crashing the vehicle near Okarche, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Oklahoma City.
The man’s name has not been released.
West says the man was suspected of stealing a vehicle in Oklahoma City, then later abandoning it and stealing the truck.
West says about a dozen law officers joined the chase at speeds of 100 miles per hour.
West said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
