ATLANTA (AP) - Former president Barack Obama has endorsed the Democrats trying to knock off Republican incumbents in two of Georgia’s most competitive congressional races.

Obama on Monday released a second wave of nationwide endorsements for the upcoming midterm elections in November.

The endorsements include Lucy McBath, running against Rep. Karen Handel in Georgia’s 6th District, and Carolyn Bourdeaux, taking on Rep. Rob Woodall in Georgia’s 7th District.

Both districts include suburban areas north of Atlanta that have become more urban and less white in recent decades, leading Democrats to believe there may be an opening for them.

Obama also endorsed Sally Harrell for state Senate District 40, Zahra Karinshak for state Senate District 48 and Donna McLeod for state House District 105.
