A plurality of voters do not want to see Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Monday in the wake of last week’s dramatic hearing.

The poll found 48 percent opposed the judge, compared to 42 percent who said they wanted to see him win a seat on the high court.

That closely tracks with the number that believes him — 41 percent — versus the 48 percent who say they’re inclined to believe his chief accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.

And a major gender gap has emerged, with women opposed Judge Kavanaugh, 55-37, while men are still supportive, 49-40.

“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is winning the trust of American voters, who overwhelmingly believe she is honest. But about half of voters say Judge Brett Kavanaugh is the target of a smear campaign,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the poll.
