CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A former juvenile detention center worker in Wyoming convicted of sexually assaulting a young female inmate has been sentenced to six months in jail.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports 31-year-old John Gallagher was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in August to third-degree sexual assault.

According to court documents, Gallagher asked a female inmate, who was no older than 16, to show him her breast while she was in her cell at the Natrona County’s Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

Prosecutors say he reached through the bars and touched her after she lifted her shirt.

Gallagher will have five years of probation following the jail term, with a suspended prison sentence of eight to 12 years.

He will also register as a sex offender.
