LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov.-elect Gretchen Whitmer has decided to live in the official residence for Michigan’s chief executive.
Whitmer spokesman Zack Pohl said Thursday the incoming Democratic governor and her family will move in January into the 8,700-square-foot ranch-style home in Lansing.
The home was last occupied by former Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Current Gov. Rick Snyder, who chose to remain in the Ann Arbor area, used it for meetings, receptions and other events during his two terms in office.
The home, donated to the state in 1969, underwent a $2.5 million renovation and addition in 2004. A nonprofit operates it as well as the governor’s residence on Mackinac Island.
Whitmer was elected Tuesday.
