PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island recovery home has received $1 million in federal funds to help former inmates.
The Providence Journal reports the Amos House received the grant as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Second Chance Act program.
Amos House officials plan to start the Rhode Island Reentry Collaborative which focuses on preventing recidivism. It will partner with the Center for Prisoner Health and Human Rights, the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence and other organizations.
Amos House President and CEO Eileen Hayes said in a statement Wednesday the project will support efforts by Rhode Island’s Department of Corrections.
Amos House serves more than 15,000 people annually through transitional housing, soup kitchens and its other programs.
