Vox Media co-founder Matthew Yglesias told readers Thursday that an Antifa mob that surrounded the home of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson was, for all intents and purposes, incited by the conservative pundit.
The website’s senior correspondent told Twitter followers that he “cannot empathize” with Mr. Carlson’s wife; she was home alone when a mob of activists from Smash Racism DC converged on her home and chanted “Tucker Carlson, we will fight! We know where you sleep at night!”
Video of the incident, which was accompanied with the hashtag #KnockKnockTucker, was removed from Twitter and the group’s account was suspended.
Another video included “Racist scumbag, leave town!”
“I honestly cannot empathize with Tucker Carlson’s wife at all — I agree that protesting at her house was tactically unwise and shouldn’t be done — but I am utterly unable to identify with her plight on any level,” Mr. Yglesias started a string of tweets.
Mr. Yglesias went on to imply that supporters of the Carlsons were motivated by racism, for empathizing with them rather than illegal immigrants terrorized by ICE.

“I think the idea behind terrorizing his family, like it or not as a strategy, is to make them feel some of the fear that the victims of MAGA-inspired violence feel thanks to the non-stop racial incitement coming from Tucker, Trump, etc. I agree that this is probably not tactically sound but if your instinct is to empathize with the fear of the Carlson family rather than with the fear of his victims then you should take a moment to reflect on why that is.”
The Daily Caller, which Mr. Carlson founded, blasted the writer for his reaction.
“In his justification of the thugs’ tactics, Yglesias cited Carlson’s ’victims’ as if he was referring to Charles Manson or the Son of Sam rather than a cable news show host,” the conservative website wrote Thursday. “Never mind that Yglesias doesn’t go farther in explaining what he actually meant — it doesn’t matter considering he’s already on the record advocating that liberals lie for political purposes.”
“His remarks are consistent with the perverse moral worldview he has promoted in the past,” the Daily Caller continued. “In 2013, Yglesias felt the need to tell parents that former President Barack Obama’s children are more important than yours. Then again, it’s possible empathy just isn’t Yglesias’s thing, considering he previously wrote that witnessing the birth of his son made him more pro-abortion. … Yglesias’s remarks are just another indictment against the left-wing technocrats who wish to run this country and simply don’t wish to protect the interests and rights of all Americans.”
Vox did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
