NEW ORLEANS (AP) - State and city officials will be offering flu shots this Saturday at a New Orleans park.
The Louisiana Department of Health, the New Orleans Department of Health and the New Orleans Medical Reserve Corps say in a news release they’ll be offering the shots from 9 a.m. to noon at Joe Brown Park.
The shots will be given to anyone over six months old and will be free with proof of health insurance. People without health insurance can get the shots for $10.
Louisiana Office of Public Health Medical Director Dr. Joseph Kanter advises people not to underestimate the flu.
He says last year more than 15,000 state residents were hospitalized, and approximately 1,600 died because of the flu.
