NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A former member of a Connecticut town council facing charges stemming from his sexual relationship with a teenager has withdrawn his request for accelerated rehabilitation.

Ex-Farmington council member Jon Landry was scheduled to appear at a hearing Tuesday on his application for the program, which allows non-violent offenders to avoid jail and a criminal record if successful.

The Hartford Court reports that after prosecutors said the now 22-year-old woman opposed the application, Landry’s lawyer asked for a trial.

Authorities say the 43-year-old Landry met the girl online in 2008 when she was 12 and started having a sex with her when she was 16. He is not facing sex-related charges because the girl was the age of consent.

The charges stem from Landry’s alleged threats against the woman. He denies the allegations.
