President Trump told supporters Monday to get out and vote for Republicans and his agenda, saying the media will blame him if the GOP loses seats in Congress.

“Even though I’m not on the ballot, in a certain way I am on the ballot,” Mr. Trump said during a tele-town hall organized by his re-election campaign. “The press is very much considering it a referendum on me and us as a movement.”

He called Tuesday’s midterm election “very vital.”

“It really is summing up what we’ve done,” the president said.

As he headed out for his final campaign rallies for GOP Senate candidates in Ohio, Indiana and Missouri, Mr. Trump emphasized the strong economy. He predicted the media won’t give him credit if Republicans are able to beat midterm tradition and hold on to their majorities in the House and Senate.

“If we don’t have a good day, [the media] will make it like its the end of the world,” Mr. Trump said. “I’ve seen all of the newspapers. Many of them think it’s a referendum on what we’ve done. And if we don’t have a good day, they will make it like it’s the end of the world. … If we do have a good day, they won’t give us any credit.”

In Virginia, former President Barack Obama told Democratic campaign volunteers that “the character of this country is on the ballot.”

“Who we are is on the ballot,” Mr. Obama said.
