President Trump intensified his closing campaign argument Monday in three key Midwestern states, urging voters to “stop the radical resistance in its tracks” and to protect the gains of his political movement as voters decide control of Congress.

At rallies in Ohio, Indiana and Missouri, Mr. Trump said he is seeing late evidence of a tide breaking for Republican candidates.

“I look forward to seeing what happens, because something is going on,” the president said in Cleveland, Ohio. “There are a couple of honest polls that are showing some very, very good promise tomorrow. Tomorrow with your votes, you can stop the radical resistance in its tracks.”

The president’s 11th-hour blitz of campaign appearances in the Midwest showed the importance of Senate races where three GOP challengers are hoping to unseat Democratic incumbents. In Ohio, Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine is also squaring off against Democrat Richard Cordray in the race for governor.

Most polling analysts and party officials say Democrats are on track to pick up the 23 or more seats needed to gain the majority in the House, and that the GOP is likely to hold onto its Senate majority and possibly gain a few seats.

The party holding the White House has lost the midterm elections in all but two years in modern history. But Mr. Trump said Monday he thinks the GOP can stop that trend on the strength of the economy.

“Nobody in the White House has ever had the greatest economy in the history of our country. So it should be different,” he said.

Pointing to the thousand of cheering supporters in Cleveland, Mr. Trump said, “This is the greatest political movement in the history of our country. It’s your movement, not mine. And you’ve got to keep the movement going tomorrow. This is a happening. Something’s going on.”
