BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The police chief in Billings says three burglary suspects drove a car toward an officer in a narrow alley, leading the officer to fire several shots at the car.
Chief Rich St. John said Monday the driver suffered facial injuries Sunday afternoon, although it was not clear if it was from the shooting or from broken glass. The driver was arrested while the two other suspects remained at large Monday.
Officer Brandon Lange was uninjured and was placed on paid administrative leave.
St. John said Lange responded to the reported burglary, walked through a yard north of the victim’s house and came out in the alley.
He heard car doors shutting and the car pulled into the alley. St. John says the driver could have turned south, but instead turned north and accelerated toward Lange.
