JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Three new historical markers have been approved in Mississippi.

Trustees for the state Department of Archives and History say the markers are for Raymond Presbyterian Church in Hinds County, Evergreen Cemetery in Jackson County and the city of Verona in Lee County.

The Raymond church was founded in 1842 and its building was constructed in 1871.

Evergreen Cemetery was established in about 1854 as Ocean Springs’ first public burial ground. Among those buried there are artist Walter Anderson and civil rights activist Jesse Trotter Sr.

Verona was chartered in 1860 and saw troop activity during the Civil War because of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The town was raided by Union troops on Christmas Day 1864. Elvis Presley’s parents, Vernon and Gladys, were married in Verona in 1933.
