DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio community college has been selected to join an online learning initiative between the United States and Japan.

The Dayton Daily News reports Sinclair Community College has been selected to partner with a Japanese college as part of the Collaborative Online International Learning Initiative.

Deborah Gavlik, director of the school’s international education office, says the partnership will give students the opportunity to virtually meet other students, learn about different cultures and collaborate on projects.

College President Steve Johnson says Sinclair has seen “tremendous growth in student success” over the past few years, and they can now extend their efforts across international boundaries.

He says the partnership will help the Dayton region prepare for an increasingly globalized society.

Sinclair officials say five four-year universities also were selected for the initiative.
