CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - New North Carolina coach Mack Brown is adding former Tar Heels and NFL cornerback Dre’ Bly, Tim Brewster and Tim Cross to his staff.

The school announced the hirings Friday, along with the decision to retain Tommy Thigpen from former coach Larry Fedora’s staff.

Bly was an All-American under Brown in the 1990s before an 11-year NFL career. He’ll coach cornerbacks.

Brewster will be assistant head coach and tight ends coach. He coached with Brown previously at UNC and Texas. He spent 2018 at Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher.

Cross will coach the defensive line. He spent the past five seasons at Air Force and worked under Brown at Texas.

Thigpen, who played under Brown at UNC, will work as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
