Law enforcement officials are mourning a deputy U.S. marshal who was killed in Tucson while serving a warrant to a man sought for stalking a female police sergeant.

Deputy Chase White died Thursday evening at a hospital after being shot outside the house where the warrant was being served.

U.S. Marshal David Gonzales of the District of Arizona occasionally choked up at a Friday news conference about the killing.

Gonzales says he and others at the agency endured “an impossibly hard day” and that it will “take us a long time to heal.”
