WATERLOO, N.Y. (AP) - Jury selection is underway for an upstate New York man charged with fatally shooting two people and wounding a third in a Finger Lakes village last summer.
Emerson “John” Tohafjian (toh-HAHF’-gee-in), of Varick, was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 45-year-old Charlie Andrus, of Seneca Falls, and 53-year-old Lori McConnell at Karen Zdunko’s village of Waterloo apartment on the night of July 10.
Zdunko, Andrus’ girlfriend, was also shot but survived. McConnell was Tohafjian’s ex-girlfriend.
Police said was the 48-year-old Tohafjian was hiding in bushes outside the apartment when the women were dropped off by a taxi. Authorities say he followed them inside and shot all three with a shotgun.
Tohafjian was taken into custody the next day at a nearby campground.
Jury selection began Friday morning in Seneca County Court in Waterloo.
