President Trump said Friday the federal government will “spare no expense” to help Alaska recover from a major 7.0 magnitude earthquake that damaged homes and infrastructure around Anchorage, the state’s largest city.

“To the Great people of Alaska. You have been hit hard by a ’big one,’” Mr. Trump tweeted. “Please follow the directions of the highly trained professionals who are there to help you. Your Federal Government will spare no expense. God Bless you ALL!”

Vice President Mike Pence echoed the president’s comments that Washington will “spare no expense to recover and rebuild.”

“We are with you Alaska. Our prayers are with you,” Mr. Pence tweeted. “God Bless.”

Mr. Trump is attending the G-20 summit in Argentina. The president was briefed Friday afternoon on the earthquake and is monitoring damage reports, the White House said.

“We are praying for the safety of all Alaskans!” tweeted White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
