WOODBURY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police have released the preliminary identifications of two people found dead following separate fires in adjoining homes in the town of Woodbury.

Late Friday, police said that 48-year-old David Thompson was found dead in his Bliss Road home. An autopsy determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death is considered a homicide.

The second victim found in the adjacent home was identified as 29-year-old Carol Fradette. The cause and manner of her death remains pending.

Woodbury firefighters were called to the scene Wednesday night after receiving a report that Thompson’s home was engulfed in flames. They then found Fradette’s home burning as well.

Two dogs were also found shot to death in Thompson’s home.

Final confirmation of the victims’ identities is pending.

The investigation is continuing.
