DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Anthony Lawrence passed for 227 yards and a touchdown and added two short TD runs to propel San Diego to a 27-10 victory over Drake in Pioneer Football League play on Saturday.
San Diego has now won a FCS-best 21 straight home games. The Toreros also have a 27-game win streak in PFL play and a 36-game win streak in conference home games.
Lawrence ran it in from 2 yards out and scored on a 1-yard plunge to give the Toreros (7-2, 6-0) a 13-0 first-quarter lead. The Bulldogs (4-3, 3-2) got on the scoreboard when Jeran Proctor picked off Lawrence and raced 27 yards for a touchdown to make it 13-7. Terrence Smith scored on a 5-yard run late in the second quarter to push San Diego’s advantage to 20-7 at the half.
Lawrence capped the scoring for the Toreros with a 42-yard scoring strike to Michael Bandy just 3 minutes into the third quarter. Bandy, who leads the nation in receiving yards, finished with five catches for 70 yards.
Drake managed only 40 yards rushing on 23 carries. Grant Kraemer completed just 16 of 47 passes for 214 yards with two picks. The Bulldogs became the first PFL team to hold San Diego under 36 points this season.
