Ivanka Trump defended her use of a personal email for government business and said it was nothing like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.
“All of my emails are stored and preserved. There were no deletions. There is no attempt to hide,” Ms. Trump told ABC News during an interview released Wednesday. “There’s no equivalency to what my father’s spoken about.”
The Washington Post first reported that Ms. Trump sent hundreds of government-related emails to Cabinet members from a personal account in 2017. The reports were quickly confirmed by Ms. Trump’s lawyers but downplayed as only concerning logistical issues.
Many have drawn a connection between Ms. Trump and Mrs. Clinton, who was slammed throughout the 2016 presidential election by then-candidate Donald Trump, Ms. Trump’s father, for the FBI investigation into her use of a personal server.
Democrats on Capitol Hill have said that they plan to investigate whether Ms. Trump’s violated any laws in using a personal email.
Ms. Trump stressed in the interview that the biggest and most significant differences between the two cases are that hers were never deleted and weren’t classified.
She said there was “no restriction” on using a personal account as long as correspondence is put on the record and doesn’t contain sensitive information.
