ATLANTA (AP) - The mayor of Atlanta has accepted a $200,000 check from Wells Fargo Bank to help provide housing to homeless families.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms accepted the check Tuesday to help provide housing to 140 families.
Bottoms says the city has invested $1.2 million in “rapid re-housing” over the past year. Rapid re-housing is a recently developed strategy to combat homelessness that emphasizes reducing the amount of time that people spend on the streets and connecting them to community resources. To date, the mayor says, the city and its service providers have found homes for 96 families.
The mayor says this is a tool that provides services and resources to help families achieve independent so that they don’t return to homelessness.
