BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police officers in Buffalo could be wearing body cameras on a permanent basis as soon as January.
Buffalo Police Capt. Jeff Rinaldo says they are currently working with a police advisory committee to create a policy for body camera use. He says the committee will present the policy to the public for input.
Rinaldo says the body camera program will cost an estimated $1 million for equipment and $1.5 million for data storage.
He says they have a vendor in mind, but he cannot name the vendor until the decision is official.
Rinaldo says all 550 officers will undergo eight hours of training once the body camera policy is in place.
Buffalo police ended its pilot body camera program in September.
