CENTRE, Ala. (AP) - An employee is suing an Alabama school system claiming she wasn’t promoted because she is black.
AL.com quotes the lawsuit Rashida Dupree filed this month. She’s suing the Cherokee County Board of Education under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for claims including race discrimination.
The lawsuit says Dupree has worked for the school board since 2006 and applied for at least 19 administrative positions since 2011. It says the board hired a white person for each job she applied for.
Dupree is asking the court to order the board to hire her either for the assistant principal or another position she sought.
State data show the school system has four black teachers and the student population is about five percent black.
Court records don’t list attorneys for the board.
