MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) - Wesleyan University has signed an agreement with Eversource Energy to support the school’s goal of moving toward achieving carbon neutrality.

The partnership involves a three-year plan to improve energy efficiency and save 3.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Wesleyan says energy efficiency efforts over the last four years already have saved the university almost four million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. That reduced energy costs by roughly $480,000 a year.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro said the initiatives at Wesleyan show it is taking a leading role in dealing climate change.

The school aims to become carbon neutral by 2050.
