WASHINGTON (AP) - A now-former librarian at a Maryland public school was filmed admitting to calling a black man a racist slur and has since retired.
News outlets report that Prince George’s County Schools interim CEO Monica Goldson confirmed the retirement. Authorities haven’t released the employee’s identity. Goldson says students of color make up 90 percent of the school district and she’s working to provide employees with bias training.
According to the reports, the video was posted online this month by Dawn Tolson-Hightower and shows the librarian admitting to calling Tolson-Hightower’s husband a derogatory slur. Tolson-Hightower says the slur was made in front of her children and was triggered by a parking dispute.
The school said last week it couldn’t fire the woman because she was a union member. She’s expected to receive full state benefits.
