NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Police in Delaware say a woman pepper sprayed a department store employee who confronted her as she tried to leave the store without paying for merchandise in her bag.

Delaware State Police said in a statement that an employee at the Macy’s in Christiana Mall saw 23-year-old Sharnagia Watson of Wilmington concealing merchandise in a bag Wednesday. Police say the employee confronted Watson as she left the store and Watson sprayed him with pepper spray. Police say the employee detained Watson until mall safety officers arrived, but a second suspect who was with Watson fled.

Police say Watson is charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree conspiracy and shoplifting. She was released on an $11,000 unsecured bond. It’s not clear if Watson has an attorney.
