A record cold Thanksgiving didn’t prevent Mainers from waiting outside in the cold for a Black Friday deal.

Solomon Ben-Ami of Saco waited for more than 24 hours for the Maine Mall to open at midnight Friday in South Portland. The temperature was 10 degrees by the time the doors opened and Ben-Ami raced into a Best Buy in hopes of buying a pair of 70-inch flat screen TVs.

In Auburn, Ryan Decker from Jay covered himself in a sleeping bag as he waited outside. Shoppers waiting in the cold for JCPenney to open ordered takeout food.

Not everyone was ready to spend.

Teenager Dylan Turner said he showed up at the Maine Mall mostly because it was a prime opportunity for people-watching.
