JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - The authority that runs Georgia’s Jekyll Island will set aside a dedicated entrance lane for residents and visitors with annual passes.
The Brunswick News reports Jekyll Island Authority Executive Director Jones Hooks made the announcement at a Tuesday meeting.
Hooks says people with annual passes have been complaining about traffic backups at the authority’s toll booth during high-traffic periods.
The authority will pay about $410,000 for new toll gates, a new security camera system and new digital lane displays.
Hooks say the new gate will have license plate scanners, meaning those with annual passes will no longer need electronic cards attached to their windshields.
The new system should take around six months to put in place.
