ARLINGTON, Texas — A new report indicates Alex Smith’s rehabilitation will take longer than first expected and the Washington Redskins quarterback will miss the start of next season.
On Fox’s pregame show before Washington’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Smith will be out 8-10 months. Redskins coach Jay Gruden first said it would be 6-8.

If it turns out to be true, it would be an even bigger blow for both Smith and the Redskins, who went 6-3 in the first nine games together. Smith was acquired from Kansas City last spring and signed to a five-year contract.
Smith, 34, broke his tibia and fibula in Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans.
