RENO, Nev. (AP) - The National Weather Service says two waves of winter weather are expected to hit the Sierra and northern Nevada.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the storms will affect travel late Wednesday and Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says on its Facebook page that “the best travel windows are expected to be Tuesday through early Wednesday afternoon and again Saturday through Sunday.”

The weather service says snow levels could fall to around 6,000 feet (1,830 meters) Wednesday night.

The weather service also issued a special weather statement on Monday, warning all travelers to prepare winter travel kits in case of long delays over mountain passes.
