Hollywood celebrity Jim Carrey told an audience in Los Angeles that President Trump is “raping” the nation with the help of a very specific group — the “Christian right.”

The man who plays “Mr. Pickles” on the television series “Kidding” joined a political panel at Vulture Fest on Sunday in which he discussed his anti-Trump art and the state of U.S. politics. Mr. Carrey’s regular broadsides against the president, however, were paired with criticism for right-leaning Christians.

“These are not people you can deal with,” he said of the Trump administration. “You cannot be bipartisan with a criminal. A rapist needs to be removed, not negotiated with. These people are raping our system, they’re destroying it right in front of us. … Trump is a melanoma, and anybody that covers for him, including Sarah Sanders, is putting makeup on it. It shows that there’s a deeper problem in this country, and that problem is greed.”

Mr. Carrey then pivoted to address conservative voters of faith.

“I think [the nation is] going to find out once and for all that the Christian right has never been about morality, it’s been about holding on to power and using morality to do so,” he said.

The entertainer then went on to discuss a painting of Mr. Trump crucifying Jesus, among other projects, The Hollywood Reporter noted Sunday.
