President Trump accused the media Friday of “creating violence” by publishing and broadcasting false stories.

Asked by a reporter at the White House if his campaign rhetoric incites violence, Mr. Trump retorted, “No. You know what? You’re creating violence by your question. You are … you.”

He said “a lot of reporters are creating violence by not writing the truth.”

“The fake news is creating violence,” Mr. Trump said. “The people that support Trump and the people that support us, which is a lot of people — most people, many people — those people know when a story is true and they know when a story is false.”

He added, “If the media would write correctly and write accurately and write fairly, you’d have a lot less violence in the country.”

Many on the left have blamed Mr. Trump for a supporter who was charged last week with mailing pipe bombs to prominent Democrats, and for a gunman with anti-immigrant sentiments who was charged with killing 11 people last weekend at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
